Managing older members of staff

A client had an issue managing an older member of staff. When I asked what the problem was...there wasn't one!! So what was the issue? It turned out the person I was speaking to thought they would be seen as "a young upstart" or "interferring" or "not knowing the job properly" by the older staff member.

It turned out to be all in their thinking.

On tackling a performance issue with the older staff member, the issue was addressed, the solution agreed and performance changed....with NO comeback & NO "you're younger than me" issues being raised.

Have you ever thought soemthing was a problem & it turned out not to be the case?

It's all in your thinking. Think what you want to have happen, focus on the positive outcomes and, more often than not, that is what you wil get.

The brain provides what your thoughts focus on - use it wisely.
