Chimney pots or floors ?

I've just been discussing the psychological benefits of where your eyes focus with a fellow training consultant.

He mentioned he had someone on one of his leadership courses and while discussing an extract from my book, The Confident Manager, on the benefits of looking up towards the chimney pots, the MD had an "aha" moment regarding how his staff were perceived.

Why are some staff often seen as miserable? Is it because they do a repetitive job? Perhaps it is because they focus on looking down for so much of their day that psychologically their brain thinks they are feeling miserable and provides cortisol to respond to the physiology.

To boost your confidence, feel good, and maintain a positive outlook take time to straighten your posture during the day. Look away from the PC screen. Look up and marvel at the sky (ok it's grey and raining as I write this, but the cloud formations are wonderful).

If you are around Cambridge on 25th March come along to my workshop at Borders, where I'll be giving some confidence tips in person.

Have a great day.

Kate

Very reminiscent of the "Shoe event horizon" from the "Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy". Regular eye contact with people when they are listening to you is also very important, even when presenting as it holds interest. Good luck with the Border event tomorrow.
