The Importance of Smiling

Why should we take the trouble to smile?

Well, that's what I have just been discussing on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. A smile really can change your mood. If you are feeling down in the dumps, fed up because you have broken your new year resolution or in a black mood with someone in particular the chances are that a smile is the last thing on your mind. When you are hurrying to the shops, rushing to get to work or wandering down the street in your own thoughts - again, people forget to smile.

So why bother?

Just smiling three times in succession will trigger the release of "happy hormones" from your brain - seratonin and endorphins. So often we don't take the trouble to do it and allow our negative thoughts to rule.

I know what I'd rather do - so let's get smiling!!

Oh yeah, I'm with you on that. A smile can change a day, and change attitude so easily.

Hi Kate, maybe a little late in posting:-)

But wow! To just smile opens up the world. Smile when no one's smiling. Just smile.

I'm going to smile more.
