Effective Networking Matters

Speaking to job seekers at a recent Cambridge Network event brought home the increasing importance of networking.

When seeking a job, at the moment there are may applicants for one job (take the example of over 400 people applying for the 40 or so jobs at the new Morrisons near Cambridge). So, how do you get a foot in the door? The old adage "it's not what you know, it's who you know" does have some truth - note *some* truth.

You need to know your stuff, whatever that might be. The "who you know" is the bit that helps you get a foot in the door. And that's where networking comes in.

If the thought of networking scares you, intimidates you or fascinates you and you would like to know more - come along to an event on 15th June run by JCI Cambridge where I will be speaking on the subject of Effective Networking.
